About CELESTE Lab
CELESTE Lab is an International Research Project (IRP) of CNRS (French National Centre of Scientific Research) that investigates the degradation of soil and water resources in the relatively understudied Southern Cone region (Southern Brazil, Uruguay, Northern Argentina) where intensive crops and plantations are being installed at the expense of the biodiversity-rich Pampa and Atlantic Forest Biomes.
Based on a network of catchments monitored by the Brazilian, Argentinian and Uruguayan partners, a unique panel of techniques (field monitoring, sediment multi-proxy dating, and tracing, computer modelling) is being deployed and combined to quantify spatial and temporal variations of water/sediment/contaminant fluxes in rivers draining these unique ecosystems.

Target region
The Southern Cone region (Southern Brazil, Uruguay, Northern Argentina) where intensive crops and plantations are being installed at the expense of the biodiversity-rich Pampa and Atlantic Forest Biomes is investigated in priority in CELESTE Lab. To this end, the partners can rely on a network of experiments and field sites operated by the Argentinian, Brazilian and Uruguayan partners.
